Police eject 57 from CU-UT game

University of Colorado police ejected 57 people from CU's Homecoming football game at Folsom Field on Saturday night, mainly for alcohol-related violations.

CU police issued seven citations at the game for underage drinking; referred 11 students to CU's Office of Judicial Affairs; sent 12 people to a detox center; and arrested three people. One arrest was for disorderly conduct, another for assault and the third was made on a failure to appear warrant.

The Texas Longhorns bulldozed the CU team, 38-14.

The nighttime kick-off at 5:10 p.m. likely contributed to the rowdiness of the crowd, CU police officials said. About 54,000 people filled Folsom Field for the sold-out game, which was patrolled by about 85 police officers from CU and neighboring jurisdictions.

"It was a pretty typical night game," said CU police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley. "There's more time throughout the day and afternoon to tailgate and drink."

Authorities didn't want a repeat of the rowdy atmosphere experienced Sept. 18, when the Buffs routed West Virginia 17-14 in overtime in the first night game of the season.

During that game, CU police ejected 65 people -- nearly three times as many as at CU's first home game this season and more than double the number at last year's night game.

Of the dozens of people who were kicked out of Folsom Field at that game, 43 were ejected for alcohol-related violations, according to CU police. Police also said there were a record number of reports of fights, with one man charged with felony assault.

Wiesley said there were fewer fights at Saturday's game.

I wonder how many attendees were left alone because they were smoking pot?

if you send the cops there to eject people, then they're going to find people to eject.

simple as that.

I've said it before: CU football fans are setting a bad example for Boulder's homeless alcoholics. . .

Who is this DC sportswriter??

" when the Buffs routed West Virginia 17-14 in overtime in the first night game of the season."

A "rout" is not a 3 point win.....that's considered "squeaking by".

I don't think anyone is suprised by this. CU-Boulder has the worst, out of control fans in the country. Classless!!

The math is less than 1/10th of 1%. 57/54000 that is. Hardly out of control. This percentage is far less than the crime rate of any city of 54,000 on any given night. You will see more drug and alcohol arrests at most concerts in such a facility.

Do I like to be around obnoxious drunkards? No, I don't, but all this weeping and wailing about about 1/10 of 1% shows me that most of you have nothing productive to do with yourselves other than whine.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
