Boulder police investigate Celestial Seasonings bomb threat

Boulder police today are investigating whether a Celestial Seasonings employee was behind a bomb threat that evacuated the Gunbarrel business Tuesday night for nearly an hour.

Officers were called to the 4600 Sleepytime Drive company about 8:20 p.m. after a floor supervisor reported recieving a text message on his cell phone alleging that a bomb would go off at 8:30 p.m., said Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.

"The company made the decision to evacuate," Huntley said.

About 40 people were working in the building at the time, and Huntley said they stayed outside until at least 9:10 p.m. while detectives — and a Boulder bomb technician — scoured the site for suspicious packages or devices.

"We did a search of the area and found no device," Huntley said.

If investigators identify a person they suspect sent the text message, that person would face charges, she said.

"Detectives are working with human resources today to see if it came from someone inside the company," Huntley said. "That is something we are looking into, but we're not sure yet who sent it."
